On the 9th July, the UMinho formally joined the Portuguese Railway Platform (PFP) with the signature of the official adhesion form. The institution thus vowed to respect and follow the PFP statutes, “contributing in an active way to strengthen the national railway sector”.
The UMinho signed its membership to the Portuguese Railway Platform (PFP), immediately leading the institution to take part in the application to IAPMEI (Small and Medium Enterprise competitiveness and innovation agency) aiming at the recognition of railway competitiveness cluster, in the framework of the ministerial decree nr 2909/2015. The goal is to create a joint knowledge and competence platform, constituted by partnerships and networks including industrial partners, industrial and entrepreneurial associations, public entities and other relevant support institutions, sharing a common strategic vision. It is expected that superior levels of competitive capacity are reached in the railway domain.
The launching ceremony of the PFP took place on the 9th July, under the auspices of AICEP (national trade and investment agency). The founding members of the platform are: CP, REFER, Mota-Engil, Evoleo, Nomadtech, FEUP, IST and Alma Design. Further member adhesion has been excellent, counting on entities, apart from the UMinho, such as Thales PT, Siemens Mobile, LCW Consult, Betar, SISCOG, ISQ, CARD4B, Ambisig, Steconfer and Cablotec.
The long term goal is to have the railway sector reaching the same dynamics, visibility and export capacity as the aeronautics sector.
